As wireless users continue to demand more and more data capacity (largely due to video usage), the wireless carriers are expected to meet the demands. According to a recent announcement, AT&T is going to do just that when they begin field testing their 5G technology later this year.
AT&T will partner with Ericsson and Intel for this massive project. Once implemented, users can expect to see 5G speeds performing at 10 to 100 times faster than today’s average connection.
“New experiences like virtual reality, self-driving cars, robotics, smart cities and more are about to test networks like never before,” John Donovan, chief strategy officer and group president of AT&T technology and operations, said in a statement. “These technologies will be immersive, pervasive and responsive to customers. 5G will help make them a reality.”
